Drivers' Mental Representation of Travel Time and Departure Time Choice in Uncertain Traffic Network Conditions

The decisions drivers make, such as choice of route or departure time, constitute typical decision making under uncertainty. Drivers' decision making has been studied within the framework of expected utility theory. However, empirical decisional phenomena violating the premise of expected utility theory have been observed repeatedly. These findings have indicated that decision making is critically affected by the decision frame. It has also been pointed out that the uncertainty of outcome is perceived as an interval of possible resultant values. Based on these findings, we propose hypotheses that: (1) a driver perceives an uncertain travel time as an interval, and (2) a driver decides on a departure time based on a decision frame edited by this interval. To test these hypotheses, we collected data on drivers' departure time choice behavior, n = 335. Decisional phenomena found in this study confirm our hypotheses.     

Stumbling upon news on the Internet: Effects of incidental news exposure and relative entertainment use on political engagement

Contemporary concerns that the Internet might lead to political apathy are based on suggestions that people would use the Internet for entertainment purposes rather than news consumption. However, what if someone stumbles upon news when surfing the Internet? Would this incidental news exposure online be helpful in promoting citizens’ political engagement? This study tests whether and how incidental news exposure (INE) and relative entertainment use (REU) on the Internet are associated with political participation. Drawing from US national data, results revealed a significant and positive relationship between INE and offline and online political participation while REU was negatively associated with offline and online political participation. More importantly, the role of INE in facilitating citizens’ online political participation was stronger for those who consume less entertainment online, indicating that incidental news exposure may increase existing gaps in political participation between people who prefer news and people who prefer entertainment online.

面向Web 新闻的事件多要素检索方法

针对用户获取事件类信息的需求,在分析Web 新闻特征、事件多要素检索特点的基础上,研究了面向Web 新闻的事件多要素检索方法.首先,提出了面向Web 新闻的事件多要素检索模型;然后,使用BNF(Backus-Naur form)形式化定义了事件多要素查询项;最后,结合事件的动作要素、Web 新闻标题的重要性及事件项与约束项之间的距离,提出了事件查询项与文档相关性的计算方法.设置了16 个事件多要素查询项,基于Baidu 搜索引擎对P@n 指标进行了实验分析,所提方法得到的平均P@10 结果为0.87,平均P@20 结果为0.83.对16 个事件查询主题,通过人工标注语料的方法对F-measure 指标进行了实验分析,所提方法得到的平均F-measure 为0.74.结果表明,所提方法对事件多要素的检索较为有效.

一种Web新闻视频内容语义分析

视频内容安全分析,是多媒体内容安全的重要研究领域和热点问题。本文提出一种Web新闻视频内容语义分析方法,该方法在新闻视频故事单元分割的基础上,根据ASR（Automatic Speech Recognition）识别的脚本在语音上的相似性,通过计算拼音相似度的方法来获取语义关键词。然后,利用Web获得与脚本相似的网页,从而得到新闻片段比较准确的内容语义。通过对TRECVID2005内中文新闻视频CCTV4_NEWS进行的实验表明,提出的方法是可行的。
